Product Info

2 rows of 6 domed “headless” pole screws made especially for us out of tougher steel. This is a real fun full-sized monster if you love super crunch & growl. Hell, it sounds gooood, so dynamic, and with it’s rapid attack and impressive dynamic range it feels great too without Fx devices and like a Ferrari it just wants to get up and go … it’s so exciting. All strings, top and bottom, break into full-on crunch so easily, without Fx devices, amazing … that’s what it is. Know what you’re thinking, the plain strings have a ragged spikey sound like ceramic magnets produce, right? Wrong!!! they are sweet as … but have all the cuting glass you’d ever want plus super dynamic response and long natural sustain. Puts other (crude) hot humbuckers to shame, even the original super distortion that started it all. You just gotta get this amazing humbucker into your guitar.
For a pickup so capable of sonic mayhem it sure sounds pretty darn agreeable.
- We don’t use ceramic magnets because …
- a) being non-metallic they don’t contribute inductance and so the sound of the plain strings is thin and gnarly.
- b) ceramic magnets are excessively powerful and that causes unpleasant frequency warbling of the strings, and….
- c) sustain is shortened due the magnetic string damping.
- Instead of excessively strong magnets, we gather all the wasted magnetism from our three conventional Alnico-5 bar magnets and focus it into the coil space where it produces 50% more voltage from a given coil. It’s called efficiency.
- We get all the best sounds and brutal power from our coils and guided magnetic field. No need to use bothersome ceramic magnets.
- Our coils behave differently compared to ordinary humbuckers because of our innovative magnetic device. Gone are the upper midrange spikes and gone too is the ‘mud’ of the low E string. All strings sound highly agreeable despite the brutal output they produce. The low wounds have improved depth and clarity and the plains have a new kind of sweet cut that.
- The two coils have radical geometry and are wound radically (30%) different which is partly the reason for the excellent sounds, BUT …. despite unbalanced coils there is absolute Zero-Hum
- Clean tones are surprisingly beautiful and come to the fore with the volume rolled back.
- Gain and distortion sounds are exemplary, probably better than anything you’ve ever heard before because the tone still shines through the wall of sound. Absolutely no mud!
Our pickups are over engineered and designed carefully so that wax potting has no detrimental effect on sound. All Kinman’s are wax potted and you have the freedom to utterly saturated their sound in distortion without a hint of microphonic feedback.
- 53mm bridge pickups with vintage Stratocaster bridge
- 50mm bridge pickup for all other bridges -and- neck pickup with vintage Stratocaster bridge
- 47.5mm neck pickup with all other bridges. Has our exclusive CLCT technology that restores the performance that is lost when poles are spaced closer together.
Mounting hardware (included)
- Two 3-48 UNC mounting screws. Phillips drive in a domed head.
- Silicon rubber tube springs.
Optional mounting hardware
- Three screw mounting for precise control over tilt and slant. 8mm between the two screws on the bass side.
Hook-up wires
- Robust single wires for soldering, requires effective shielding in wiring tunnels to prevent electrical buzz
- More than 3 single wires for multi-sound versions
- 2 or 3 conductor shielded cable to facilitate phase reversing of non-splitting versions. Wiring tunnel shielding not required
- All the above with or without Kinman Harness Plugs
Connection means
- for soldering
- Plug for Kinman Goodbye Soldering harness
Cover options
- Hand buffed Nickel-Silver. Best sonic performance and immunity to feedback screech. Suitable for relicing and deliberate aging
- Will lose it’s mirror-like polish naturally in a few months unless you maintain it with occasional application of clear liquid guitar polish
- Durable Black. Low maintenance, easy to keep clean and extremely resistant to scratching.
- With and without Kinman logo
- Is suitable for standard humbucker mounting rings
Pot & Capacitor values
- Best with 500k Ohm volume pot, but almost as good with 250k.
- Tone pot is usually the same value as the volume but for a little more top end brightness can be 1meg or No-Load.
- Stock pots can actually measure as low as 350k. Pots in our Goodbye-Soldering Harness are guaranteed to measure no less that 500k.
- Normal tone cap value of 0.022uF, 63 ~ 100 volt Polyester. Smaller uF value lessen the severity of Treble cut, higher values increase it.
- The voltage rating of Caps is not important but 63 ~ 100 volt have thicker lead wires that are easy to work with.
Output Polarity:
- in-phase with all other Kinman pickups
- in-phase with Gibson and Copy humbuckers
- opposite phase to Fender Strat
- optional 3 wire Phase reversible
We highly recommend consulting the Install Guide in the Technical section even if you think you know it all. Kinmans’ require specialized knowledge and sometimes there is updated info. There is also a handy wiring diagram available with extra functionality switching options.
We also highly recommend consulting the Adjust & Set-up page in the Technical section so you get the best out of your Kinman pickups.

Impersonator MV (Modern Vintage - formerly known as Impersonator 54 v5) with Kinman's Gen-2 technology Customer Stuart says ..."These Kinman Impersonator 54 pickups sound very similar to the Bare Knuckle 63 Veneer 64's – but better. There’s more clarity, and there’s more top-end. Honestly, the Kinmans are making my other Strats sound dark – and they’ve got true single coil pickups in them. Noiseless pickups aren’t supposed to have better top-end than true single coil pickups, but these do". (read the Report Cards for more from Stuart)Impersonator MV
